Photos By Aaron Of Work On The Power Lines

On Saturday, March 2nd Aaron (Cabin # 196) took these pictures of the power line cut as seen from Berkshire Valley Road.

Aaron writes:  “There is some very serious equipment sitting off the road between BVR and the lake. There are cranes at the east and west ridges erecting new bases for new towers (I think).  Bases are in place for the tower closest to BVR.  Nothing appears to be driving (trucks or machines) up the hill from BVR to the west ridge.  There are erosion control measures in place. Lots of stone where soil is disturbed with by trucks and machinery.”

The Roads Look Good

Paul French has finished work on the roads and they are in excellent shape. But the ground is saturated and it is still raining. Let’s hope for a dry spell.

Scroll down to previous posts for “before” pictures of the bridge.

Photo taken by Jeff Galloway Sunday, March 28 This is what some of the roads we don’t maintain look like. As Jeff says, “they are instructive about the forces of nature we’re dealing with on the roads that we are maintaining.”

Photo taken today, Tuesday, March 30 by Mike Klein who says, “We are OK So Far.”

Thanks very much to all who have been taking care of the place. Kevin and Mike Rowe pulled trees out of the road early on and I’m sure there are others who helped but remain anonymous.

The Lake Sunday around 3PM

From Doug Stevens, Cabin 114:

These pictures were taken around 3pm on Sunday from below the dam and around our cabin (114 Red Rd). Too early to tell the damage of the bridge but it is still intact, could not get close enough to check on the dam. Seemed like water was starting to recede since there were signs that the water at some point was behind the cabins. Will be heading back up today to check again.

High Water on Blue Road and a Very Wet Bridge

A couple of feet of snow cover washed into the lake by two days of rain means we are having a spectacular mud season.

Aaron  took this picture Sunday, March 14 of the Blue Road and the bridge.

At least three LLCOA officers have been up at the Lake during the stormy weather keeping an eye on things. Here are some of their messages:

From Aaron:
The road is well below the bridge elevation and who knows how much the bridge might be damaged. Even the lake was a flowing river. Not a cheap fix.

From Vicki:
Our dock is still floating on top of the water! Hope we don’t find it sitting on the bottom after the water subsides.  So far, so good! The water was expected to crest around 3 or 4 this afternoon, based on what I read on line this morning.

From Jeff:
I will try to get up to the Lake on Tuesday or Wednesday to see what things look like after the water subsides. The hard rain not only dropped a lot of water directly, but it also melted a ton of snow.  When I was there Thursday, most of the ground was still covered by almost a foot of snow and the lake was mostly frozen and covered with snow.  Yesterday, as the rain fell, the snow was melting, but a lot of it was still there.  When I left yesterday at about 5 pm, there was still no flooding near the bridge, but the water looked like it was rising fast.

Dick and I will try to get up to the Lake on Wednesday and will report back. I can post your news and pictures on this blog. Send stuff to longwoodlakecabinowners@gmail.com.
